Following that, Iraqi Jewish refugee Mazal Elijah told the Jewish Press that during this period of time, right around Israel’s declaration of independence, continuous massacres against Jews occurred in Iraq and during these massacres, Arabs broke into Jews homes, stole whatever they wanted, and then flooded the homes, so that Jews would not be able to live in them anymore. Furthermore, Iraqi Jewish women traditionally would make preserved foods so that certain types of vegetables would be available in the winter months. The Arab thieves would eat up all of the preserves that the Iraqi Jewish women worked very hard to prepare, thus leaving Iraqi Jewish families with nothing.
The situation was especially dire for Iraqi Jewish women. Elijah asserted that rapes occurred all of the time and that if an Arab barged into your home and demanded to marry your daughter, it was impossible to refuse him. Iraqi Jewish women were forced to wear the face veil for their own protection. Pretty Iraqi Jewish girls were hidden by their families, so that Arabs would not demand to marry them. Women could not leave the home without an escort and they weren’t allowed to work, except to sew, knit or do beauty jobs for women. It was not even possible for Iraqi Jewish women to go out for a movie. In the end, Iraq would issue a formal expulsion edict compelling all of the Jews to leave the country and would confiscate all of the Jewish community’s property as well as assets.
However, like the Jewish people, the Kurds have also had their fair share of suffering. Mamsani noted that 400,000 villages in Kurdistan among them Jewish, Yazidi and Christian towns were destroyed by the Iraqi government: “It will be our duty as the Directorate of Kurdish Jews to help stimulate the KRG to talk about this subject. At the moment in one of Erbil’s museums, we display the culture and history of the Kurdish Jews. The Kurdish educational system educates to accept all religions and nations. We accept different religions and spread the message of accepting each other. KRG's doors are open to any Jews whose property was seized in Kurdistan which is proven with documents to have it returned to them. For that cause, we have a legal advisor in the Directorate of Jewish Affairs to help solve Jewish issues. I want to assure you that the KRG and the Iraqi Government are separate governments, possess different lands, are different nations and cultures, and are even separate in how they worship God. The Arab media consider us both part of the same country and land. But it is our duty to look at the true story, unlike the Arab incitement and chauvinistic media.”

Mohammed Alizadeh, a prominent leader in the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran who presently lives in Iraqi Kurdistan, confirmed the statements made by Mamsani: “The Iranian government makes problems for Bahais, Christians and Sunnis. The Iraqi government is like the Iranian government. They don’t have different ideas about religion. Also some groups work with the Iranians in Iraqi Kurdistan but the Kurdish government is good and has no problem with people of different religions. Also my party doesn’t have a problem with people from different religions. My party supports all religions living together in Kurdistan. Iraqi Kurdistan is helping the Christian refugees and everyone is like one family.”
Thus, while the Iraqi Kurdish government supports coexistence with Jewish people and justice for the descendants of Jewish refugees from Arab lands, Alizadeh stressed that the Central Iraqi Government that is dominated by Shias is not the ally in the War against Terror people in the West make it out to be. While they might be better than ISIS, they are not pluralistic, not pro-minority groups, not pro-democratic, and don’t support coexistence with the Jewish people and the State of Israel.
